Choosing the Right Dog Crate for Your Dog

Whether you're looking for a large or medium dog crate for your home or yard or something smaller to transport your pet when you travel, there are some things you should consider before you start spending your hard earned money. There isn't a lot to dog crates and dog carriers, but the more you know about what's available, the more prepared you're going to be when you buy.

Two Main Types of Dog Crates:

• Collapsible Dog Cages - These are usually made out of metal wire, but they can occasionally be found made from reinforced plastic. (If you have a large dog, or even a medium sized one, you're going to want to go with stainless steel.) While you can transport these (and transport animals in them), they're primarily made to help train animals and give them a place in your home that they can call their own - almost a "den."

• Plastic Dog Carriers - These are typically made out of strong plastic, and come apart into two pieces (generally the top lifts off.) Their main use is to transport small and medium dogs. They come in a lot of different shapes, sizes and styles, which makes it possible to really customize the carrier for your dog's personality.

Depending on the size of your dog and what you're looking for in a dog crate, you have a lot of different options open to you. You'll want to make sure that your dog can move around and lie down comfortably in the pet crate or carrier, whatever you decide to go with, depending on the breed of dog that you have.

If you're like most people, your pet is a very important part of your life. With that in mind, when choosing the right dog crate, you'll want to think about your pet and how they're going to feel about the decision you make. Spending a little extra money to get a great  dog crate cage shouldn't make you feel guilty when you realize how long your pet might be spending in the cage.
